30-November-2020 to 04-December-2020 (Dubai, UAE)

Description:

Theme: Harnessing Africa Gas Potentials to Power Developing Economies

Overview

It is now an established fact that Africa has huge reserves of natural gas, the challenge is how its harnessed to power the continent to greater heights.

According to ESI Africa, a report compiled by the World Bank, Harnessing African Natural Gas, has identified total discovered natural gas resources in sub-Saharan Africa at 359TCF. Proven gas reserves in this region are estimated at 136TCF, a figure that grows to 169TCF if probable reserves are also considered. The Bank highlights that West Africa continues to lead the LNG story – Nigeria accounts for 81% of proved reserves, and the three LNG exporting countries – Nigeria, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea – account for 92%.

The balance of around 190TCF for SSA has been attributed to contingent resources, which means that an estimated 50% of total resources is not currently being commercialised.

The report highlights that the large undeveloped fields in Mozambique and Tanzania account for 62% of the total contingent resources. https://www.esi-africa.com

Africa is the last true oil and gas frontier with more than 4,200 oil and gas blocks identified. Almost half of these blocks are open, subject to force majeure or in the application phase.

More than 80% of the 1,300 blocks in North Africa are licensed, while in sub-Saharan Africa it is estimated that only about 30% of 2,900 blocks are licensed. In the sub-Saharan regions it is evident that many new opportunities still exist, especially for the exploration and production (E&P) companies that are willing to take risks.

The main objective of this summit therefore is to further examine how to pwer developing economies with the huge gas reserves in Africa end engender shared prosperity for investors, the nations, host communities as well as oil and gas professionalsbring to fore those opportunities in Sub- Sahara oil and gas thus the theme “Growing Africa’s Energy Potential: Focus on Liquefied Natural Gas’.
